Todd Monken Defends Ravens Biggest Weakness

Todd Monken Defends Ravens' Biggest Weakness

Ravens' Offensive Coordinator Addresses Passing Game Concerns

In the wake of a disappointing passing performance in the Ravens' preseason opener, offensive coordinator Todd Monken has come to the defense of his unit, acknowledging the need for improvement while expressing confidence in their ability to turn things around.

Monken's Defense

"We're not going to sugarcoat it, we didn't play well enough in the passing game," Monken said. "But we're also not going to panic. We have a lot of talent on this offense, and we're confident that we can get things fixed."

Monken pointed to several factors that contributed to the struggles, including a lack of rhythm and timing between quarterback Lamar Jackson and his receivers. He also acknowledged that the Ravens need to do a better job of protecting Jackson, who was sacked twice and hit numerous times.

Addressing the Issues

To address the passing game issues, Monken said the Ravens will focus on improving their communication and execution in practice. He also said he's looking for the receivers to step up and make more plays.

"We have a lot of young receivers who are still learning the system," Monken said. "But they're talented, and we're confident that they can improve. We just need to give them time and reps."

Confidence in Jackson

Despite the struggles in the preseason opener, Monken remains confident in Jackson's ability to lead the Ravens' offense. He said Jackson is a "special player" who can make all the throws.

"Lamar is a great quarterback," Monken said. "He's still young, but he's already one of the best in the league. We're going to put him in a position to succeed, and I'm confident that he'll lead us to a successful season."
