Teen Arrested Over London Transport Cyberattack: Police

Suspect Accused of Causing Major Disruption to Tube Network

A teenager has been arrested in connection with a cyberattack that caused major disruption to the London Underground network last week, police have said.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested on Friday on suspicion of causing criminal damage to computer systems and fraud by false representation. He has been bailed to return to a south London police station later this month.

The cyberattack, which took place on August 10, caused severe delays and cancellations across the Tube network, affecting hundreds of thousands of commuters.

The Metropolitan Police said the attack had been carried out using a “denial of service” technique, which involves flooding a computer system with so much traffic that it becomes unavailable to legitimate users.

The force said the investigation into the attack was ongoing and it was working with Transport for London (TfL) to improve the security of the network.

TfL said it was “working around the clock” to improve the resilience of its systems to future cyberattacks.

The company said it had already taken a number of steps to improve security, including installing new software and working with cybersecurity experts.

The arrest of the teenager is a significant development in the investigation into the cyberattack.

It is the first time that anyone has been arrested in connection with the attack and it is hoped that the arrest will lead to further progress in the investigation.

The cyberattack is a reminder of the growing threat of cybercrime and the importance of taking steps to protect ourselves from it.

We should all be aware of the risks of cybercrime and take steps to protect ourselves and our data.

Here are some tips for protecting yourself from cybercrime:

  • Use strong passwords and change them regularly.
  • Be careful about what information you share online.
  • Only visit websites that you trust.
  • Keep your software up to date.
  • Use a firewall and antivirus software.
  • Back up your data regularly.

If you think you have been the victim of cybercrime, you should report it to the police.
