Contact Lenses: Everything You Need to Know

Contact Lenses: Prescription vs. Non-Prescription

What's the Difference?

Contact lenses are thin, curved lenses that are placed on the surface of the eye to correct vision or change the appearance of the eyes. They come in two main types: prescription contact lenses and non-prescription contact lenses.

Prescription Contact Lenses

Prescription contact lenses are designed to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. They are available in a variety of materials, including soft contact lenses, hard contact lenses, and gas permeable contact lenses. Prescription contact lenses must be fitted by an eye doctor and can only be purchased with a prescription.

Non-Prescription Contact Lenses

Non-prescription contact lenses are not designed to correct vision problems. They are used solely to change the appearance of the eyes, such as by making them appear a different color or shape. Non-prescription contact lenses are available over-the-counter and do not require a prescription. However, it is important to note that non-prescription contact lenses can still cause eye problems if they are not fitted properly or worn for extended periods of time.
